Read their blog: Day in the life of a young stroke survivor and her family

Cassidy was born perfectly healthy. After noticing she preferred her left hand at a very early age, not putting any weight on her right leg and having her toes curled up all the time, we took her to the doctor. After a year and a half of doctors not being able to tell me what was wrong with her, she was finally scheduled for an MRI. In August of 2005, right before her 2nd birthday, we were told she had had a stroke before she was even born and diagnosed with hemiplegic cerebral palsy. I didn't even know kids could have strokes, and I certainly didn't realize that babies could have strokes before they were even born!

Cassidy has had to go through a lot during her young life-physical therapy, occupational therapy, Botox injections, e-stim treatments...but we have realized that therapy doesn't have to be boring. She is involved with hippotherapy, which is horseback riding therapy, and she loves it! It really helps her trunk strength. Swimming and gymnastics are other things that Cassidy loves to do and those activities also help her to strengthen her right side. Cassidy will most likely always have to wear an ankle foot orthotic brace on her right foot and will have to endure many more years of therapy. But I know she can do it-she is and always will be my hero.
